Netflix IV ; The King's Affection

released on 11th of October 2021

"The King's Affection" also called "Affection" or "Yeonmo" is a romantic historical drama based on the manhwa of the same title. It is the secret court romance drama of a woman who was abandoned because she was born as a girl. When her twin brother died, she began to pretend to be him: the crown prince while trying to keep her identity and affection for her first love. Starring SF9's Rowoon (Jung JiUn) and Park Eun Bin (Lee Hwi) as the lead actors.

Lee Hwi, became the fake crown prince after the death of her twin brother. She is carrying a secret that she has no choice but to hide. She is fighting every day to hide her identity and must keep a poker face. She is as white as the snow and her eyes are as cold as the ice and she has a dignity that cannot be reached. She keeps a poker face and lets no one easily come closer to her because she is a fake crown prince living the life of her brother.

Jung JiUn is the teacher (royal tutor) and first love of Lee Hwi. He is a tenacious and persevering Joseon man. He also is optimistic and never misses fun things. There is a special story behind the fact that this talented son from a government official is living his own life and did not take the one drawn by his family.

I'm not generally a fan of historical dramas, but this one is different. I'm pleased I gave this drama a chance. It's wonderful and refreshing. The plot depicts people attempting to improve their lives by overcoming obstacles and their own flaws to provide purpose to their lives. It's refreshing to watch something where the major theme is proper goodness rather than a bunch of selfish and immature characters vying for power, vanity, or desire for a change.

I was hesitant to watch this drama because I felt the prince's role would be weird if portrayed by a woman, but wow, it's done so nicely. Park Eun Bin (Lee Hwi) is a fantastic actress who excels in both roles. Her face, in my opinion, is suitable for both being a queen and a king. She was lovely as a lady and dashing as a guy, which isn't a position that many actors are made out for.

" This is...

my secret "

This episode was fantastic. One of my personal favorites. The revelation was flawlessly executed and captured on film. The chemistry between the characters, the music, the acting, and the scenery are all superb. I'm pleased he (Jung JiUn) didn't question it until now when he saw her in the dress. And I like how she (Lee Hwi) revealed herself to him rather than being discovered "accidentally" like in many dramas. Are we talking to the music that plays in the background as she gets dressed? It's very magnificent. The OST used in the drama, such as One And Only by Lyn and If I by Baek Z Young, added to the exquisite feeling in the scenario. When a legendary like Baek Z Young sings the OST for a drama, you know it's going to be good.
